Workforce Development, Inc (WDI) &  Operating Engineers (49ers) Union to Offer Training Program

Workforce Development, Inc (WDI) is working with the Operating Engineers (49ers) Union to offer a four week training.  The first two weeks will be taught by WDI staff at the CareerForce Center (formerly the WorkForce Center) in Rochester.  The second two weeks will be taught by trainers from the Operating Engineers Union, again at WDI in Rochester. 
 
Participant requirements are below for the Operating Engineers class which will run from Tuesday, January 22 to Friday, February 15.   Class is Monday – Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. 
 
Applicants should:
  •  have graduated from high school or earned their GED
  • provide proof of a valid driver’s license
  • be 18 years or older
  • be able to pass a drug screen at the time of an offer of employment
  • provide I-9 supporting documentation
  • provide proof of income and income documentation for the previous six months
  • provide proof of public assistance (if applicable)
  • provide proof of veteran’s status (if applicable)
  • Applicants will be asked to take the TABE
    • Minimum allowable English score equivalent to 6th grade
    • Minimum allowable math score equivalent to 4th grade
 
  • Male applicants, 18 years or older, will be asked to prove Selective Service Registration
This class is geared to people who have barriers to employment and is meant to give an awareness of, and access to, in-demand careers that pay a living wage in asphalt paving, crane operation, highway heavy, and/or mechanics.
